Well, here’s the thing: when I’m doing beauty research and testing out everything from eye-wateringly expensive face creams to the cheapest brow gels in the world, I make a note of any fabulous cheap brow gels I come across Beauty finds. Until I list five of them: Then I make a video. That’s the general gist of it.
I’m supposed to be making videos more often than usual, but time passes me by, and then other new, shiny stuff from Beauty Lab comes along, and you all know how this story ends.Backlog of amazing products Can Much more expensive than they are — high-performance, smartly formulated skincare and luxurious makeup gems — but they’re not. They are much cheaper than comparable luxury items and Offered often.
In this video, we have a lipstick that is much cheaper than the one I bought from Gucci, a great new shampoo for those prone to dandruff, and three other great beauty products. This is the perfect mix of quality items at a reasonable price! let’s go:
Revlon “Afternoon Pink” Lipstick£7.99 at Amazon here*.
After the Gucci lipstick experiment (here, in case you missed it on Instagram), I made it my mission to find the best pink lipstick on the high street. To be honest, I haven’t had great success so far, mostly because when you try to find lipstick testers on the high street, they’re all gone, or covered in melted lipstick, or rolled under the shelf. But this pink shade “Afternoon Pink” from Revlon is really a very good start. It’s only slightly softer than Gucci’s Kimberley Rose (here*), but somehow more wearable. less on your face. Not that scary.
It is comfortable to wear, has a glossy finish at first and turns almost pink after wear. I like it. £7.99? Even though I did get a free (uselessly small) canvas bag from Gucci, it was much tastier than Gucci’s version…
Sali Hughes Placid 5 Acid Daily Exfoliatorcurrently £9.80 on LookFantastic here*
I’ve always been partial to acidic exfoliators – AHAs for glowing skin and BHAs for keeping pores unclogged and blemishes free. Sali’s 5 Acid Daily Exfoliant covers two basic ingredients – shine and clarity – but the best thing about it is its extreme mildness. You can really use it on a daily basis, and I do all the time – as a lazy swipe every morning after my lazy micellar cleanse.
If you’ve been thinking about adding an exfoliator to your skincare routine, but are confused about how and when to use it, and whether it will work well for your retinol addiction, this is a great place to start.
L’Oreal Revitalift Clinical SPF50currently £10 instead of £19.99 at Sainsburys here*
This is L’Oréal’s hit product; a high protection face sunscreen with a truly lightweight, delicate feel. It disappears instantly, once on the skin you don’t feel it’s there, goes super bright under makeup, and is easy to carry around. All kinds of not loving?Great for oily skin, dry skin needs a solid moisturizer underneath as this is Light In front of May. Sainsburys is currently less than half the price.
Mitchum Cedar Deodorant Stickcurrently £4.04 here*
Mitchum recently launched a gel-cream deodorant, and while I love the texture, smell and performance, it felt a bit messy to apply. I prefer their creamy bars, and they do it with the same cedar scent, which is amazing. Slightly green and slightly woodsy, a far cry from some of the soapy smells that deodorants usually have. The creamy bar claims to provide 24-hour protection—I never need that much and wash it off anyway, but it does work its magic on a normal day. Still, if I’m on a main group ride, it’s going to be tested to the limit, and there’s bound to be some… wetness.
Head & Shoulders Bare Shampoocurrently priced at £6.66 at Boots here*
For Head & Shoulders, this feels like a whole new slant; the shampoo looks better than anything they’ve made before, and it has a lean ingredient list. It still has the signature H&S anti-dandruff, so I think it works as well as you’d hope, but it feels very gentle on the scalp, and my hair didn’t feel dry or flaky at all after rinsing. It’s free of sulfated surfactants, silicones, and dyes, and even the lather feels soft and luxurious. In blind testing, I’d rate it as an expensive purchase, so it’s definitely a bargain, especially at current prices.
This is your destiny: watch the video now and hear me repeat the whole thing…
