Parquet Courts frontman A. Savage returns with “A Thanksgiving Prayer,” his first new solo track since 2017. In addition to the single, he has announced a solo tour for this fall. Listen to the track and check out the full list of upcoming dates below.
“The Prayer of Thanksgiving” is an intimate and complex work. While it might be melancholic at first, the lyrics imbue the song with a sense of hope and wonder, conveying Savage’s skill at expressing complex emotions. This song feels like a light in a dark place—it doesn’t shy away from life’s chaos, but still finds a way to embrace its beauty.

Savage explained in a statement that the song was born out of a meaningful creative process on Thanksgiving Day. “It was actually a very special holiday because of the fact that we were recording the song, but I gave everyone a day off,” Savage said. “[Producer] John Parrish and his wife Michelle were kind enough to allow me to take over their kitchen and cook for everyone.Dylan [Hadley, drums] I’m the only American, so some explaining is required. Absolutely a great day for the band, the studio crew and the Parrish family. “
He continued: “I’m in awe of kindness and kindness, and that’s what this song is about: being in awe of humanity. When I went back to my room, I was in such a high spirit that I started writing, and this song is about us. What was on the page when it was taped the next morning.”
This fall, Savage will embark on a North American tour after performing at the Murmuration Festival in Newport, England, on September 30. He will tour the eastern part of the continent beginning October 20 in Portland, Maine and wrap up November 11 in New York City. Check out the full list of dates below.
