Amigo the Devil is prepping for the release of his new album, Yours Until the War Is Over, arriving February 23rd. In advance of the LP, the dark-folk troubadour has unveiled a new song, albeit in an unconventional manner.
Following the official release of the singles “Cannibal Within” and “The Mechanic,” the singer-guitarist also known as Danny Kiranos has leaked another new tune, “Once Upon a Time at Texaco (PT. 1).” Although it was posted unlisted on YouTube a few days ago, many fans discovered the new track via a voicemail at the phone number (458) 867-1239.
That phone number came from a wild and wacky late-night TV commercial promoting “The Mechanic” that Amigo hoped to get aired on MTV and Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim block. Unfortunately, the ad got resoundingly rejected for being “too violent.”
“We made a commercial for our little mechanic shop and it was clearly too hot for TV,” wrote Amigo on Instagram (see below). “It’s not the first time we’ve heard NO from major networks, and it def won’t be the last time. All jokes aside, @mtv & @adultswim literally did say the backlash they would receive for airing this wasn’t worth the money we were giving them for the airtime, so help us spread it around.”
Thankfully, the song and the rejected commercial are both available to enjoy via the YouTube clips below. But wait, there’s more! Fans can also see Amigo the Devil live in person as he supports Flogging Molly on a monthlong US tour. The outing kicks off February 16th in Mashantucket, Connecticut, and runs through a March 15th show in Tucson, Arizona, with tickets available here.
Amigo will also be on the bill for Flogging Molly’s pair of Shamrock Rebellion festivals on March 16th in Silverado, California, and March 17th in Las Vegas, plus he’ll be playing the festivals Welcome to Rockville in May and Bourbon & Beyond in September.
