Singer, guitarist, songwriter and bandleader Anthony Rossano Always drawn to courage, gravitas and connection in musical creation. Although his music is deeply rooted in the blues sky, he draws from influences from many archives.
It has certainly worked out well for him over the past decade. “As a teenager, I loved all the British bands that took inspiration from the blues,” he recalls. “I was new to guitar when I read an interview with Glen Tipton, the guitarist of Judas Priest. He mentioned Peter Green, the genius guitarist of the original Fleetwood Mac, as his main influence, citing Green Manalishi as Songs that inspired him early on. I found a copy of the Fleetwood Mac album that Peter Green recorded live at the Boston Tea Party, and after absorbing everything , which led me to John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers, which in turn led me to original blues masters like Freddie King and Muddy .Waters.
“When everything fell into place, I quickly realized that all my favorite songs by my favorite bands were actually blues songs! The feeling I got from these songs turned into a spiritual connection, which This connection originated with the Brits themselves imitating the real voice of a real American soul and then sharing it with the rest of the world. It became a transatlantic universal phenomenon.”
After all these years, Anthony continues to play his part on that continuum. He and his band, The Conqueroos – guitarist and vocalist Anthony, drummer Kyle McCormick and bassist Jack Fultz – are widely recognized and highly respected for their dedication to a particular sound, driven by And determined, he and his band, The Conqueroos, delighted and were inspired – audiences big and small. Whether performing solo or with Bob Seger and his Silver Bullet Band, ZZ Top, Gov’t Mule, Samantha Fish or Tab Benoit, this powerful trio continues to impress.
It was the association with Benoit that led to deceive the devil, Benoit himself sits behind the board responsible for production, engineering, mixing and mastering. The two first met at a blues festival in 2013 and hit it off quickly. Benoit offered Anthony the chance to open for him on tour, and two weeks later, suggested they record an album.
Recorded at Whiskey Bayou Studio, the new album represents yet another defining chapter in the careers of Anthony and his band, catapulting Anthony and his band to the top of the Billboard and iTunes blues charts, while also attracting Absolute admiration from viewers and enthusiasts alike.
Not surprisingly, the songs not only lived up to expectations, but clearly exceeded them.
“We had a great time working on this record,” recalls Anthony. “Tab was a great guy, we had similar musical influences and sensibilities. Before going into the studio we discussed our favorite records and how most of them were recorded live. The record is strictly The three played together live in the studio in the same room. We had discussions about bringing in other musicians on some songs, but Tab convinced us to keep the power trio format that reflected our true live sound. No dubbing, and no editing , mixed directly to tape. In the end, we captured the perfect vibe and ended up with a perfect, imperfect, organic record.”
With their upcoming tour kicking off in September with Humble Pie Legacy, Anthony remains humble and positive. He’s clearly paid his dues, because within days of playing at Madison Square Garden and opening for Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band, he’s back home playing for 20 people at a pool party. While there was a time when he made a living as a successful businessman and supported his family, he never lost his drive to make music, which has been his muse for the past decade.
