Beck and Phoenix brought their Summer Odyssey tour to NYC on Saturday for a show at Madison Square Garden with Weyes Blood as support, making for a terrific triple bill. With no new album from either co-headliner — they did release a collaborative single, “Odyssey,” just for the tour — the show was an all-night hit-fest. Beck brought out Phoenix and Weyes Blood for “Odyssey” and “Lost Cause,” as well. Phoenix, meanwhile, brought out Clairo to perform their version of “After Midnight,” while Weyes Blood delivered a condensed version of her “In Holy Flux” show, including the moving “God, Turn Me Into a Flower” featuring projections by filmmaker Adam Curtis.
Beck shouted out The Beastie Boys, who had just had an intersection named for them in the Lower East Side earlier that day, and Phoenix’s Thomas Mars, as usual, spent more than a little time in the crowd and on top of them. The stage set, featuring a series of frames featuring video and lights, made for a cool show, visually, too.
