During the Super Bowl, Beyoncé took the opportunity to announce a new album, Act II of her Renaissance trilogy, in conjunction with a Verizon commercial that she starred in. It’ll be out on March 29, and two singles are out now, “Texas Hold ‘Em” and “16 Carriages.” Compared to the dance music-infused first act, these earthy, acoustic new songs find Beyoncé going in a more countrified direction, as you can hear for yourself below.
“Texas Hold ‘Em” was written with Brian Bates, Elizabeth Lowell Boland, Meghan Bülow, Nathan Ferraro, and Raphael Saadiq, and produced with Ferraro and Killah B. “16 Carriages” was written with Atia Boggs, Dave Hamelin, and Raphael Saadiq, and produced with Hamelin and Ink.
Beyoncé also put up an announcement video on her Instagram that’s soundtracked by some old timey Americana songs, including Chuck Berry’s “Maybellene,” before Beyoncé’s own music kicks in. Watch that, and the Verizon ad, below too.
