Billie Eilish shares her new ballad ‘What Was I Made For?’, her contribution to the film’s soundtrack Barbie.
According to the press release, the song appears in “key scenes” throughout the film, while “beautifully and poignantly highlighting the film’s important message and emotion.” Over her brother FINNEAS’ piano performance, Eilish sings about the feeling of emptiness while imitating Barbie’s lyrics, “I’m sad again, don’t tell my boyfriend/This isn’t what he was born for/What was I born for?”

“In January, Greta showed me and Finnis some unfinished scenes from the movie; we had no idea what was going to happen at ALLL…we were so moved,” Eilish shared the song on Instagram. “We were writing the song the next day and couldn’t shut up, lol, and ended up writing almost the entire song that night. To be honest, it all seemed to happen when I really needed it. I’m very, very grateful for that. “
She continued, “This video made me cry…it means a lot to me and I hope it means a lot to you as well. There’s not much to say other than that, I think it speaks for itself.”
