boygenius–aka Phoebe Bridgers, Julien Baker, and Lucy Dacus–have made an 82-song Spotify playlist of songs that inspired their great debut album the record. It includes a lot of stuff in the indie/folk/pop realm (Big Thief, Hop Along, Waxahatchee, Land of Talk, Mitski, Band of Horses, The National, Wilco, Great Grandpa, Bon Iver & St. Vincent, Iron & Wine, Wild Pink, Broken Social Scene, Regina Spektor, Wednesday, and more), plus some punk/hardcore (Fugazi, Angel Du$t, Joyce Manor), classic emo (Mineral), folk punk (Defiance, Ohio), classic alternative (Frank Black, The Soft Boys, Nada Surf), new wave/post-punk (Suicide, The Cars, Cyndi Lauper), and lots of other stuff ranging from art rock-era Brian Eno to the late legend Sinéad O’Connor to funk legends Parliament to the shoegazy Greet Death.
