Brandi Carlile shares Indigo Girls’ “Closer to Fine” cover, which appears to be a bonus cut for “Best Weekend Edition Ever.” Barbie The soundtrack features star Ryan Gosling’s version of Matchbox Twenty’s classic hit “Push.”
Carlisle and her wife, Katherine Carlisle, transformed the cheerful original “Closer to Fine” into an acoustic ballad that weaves their beautiful vocals together. Live below.
“Closer to Fine” appeared on the Indigo Girls’ second self-titled studio album, released in 1989, marking their first major label release. Carlisle performed the song with the folk duo at a June 2008 show in Tucson, Arizona, one of her many appearances with the pioneering group. They also appeared on “Cannonball” from Carlile’s 2007 album, story. Last year, she presented the Indigo Girls with the Spirit of America Free Speech Award at the American Music Honors & Awards.
Gosling, meanwhile, also parodied the angsty vocals of Rob Thomas’ “Push” on his version of the hit, also on the acoustic. It’s been more than 25 years since the second single from Matchbox Twenty’s debut album. yourself or someone like you, topped the charts for modern rock tracks. The cover appears on the soundtrack alongside his original song “I’m Just Ken,” in which the guitarist uses Slash from “Guns N’ Roses,” as well as other “Kentributions” from Wolfgang Van Halen and new Foo Fighters drummer Josh Freese.
