With a punchy beat and the recurring refrain, “Mind Your Business, Bitch,” the single has everything you’d want from a collaboration between two pop icons. Spears’ pop prowess takes center stage, while William’s lyrics and production enrich the song, shaping it into a fun, danceable bop sound.
during an interview cbs morning show (pass rolling stones), Will.i.am describes the meaning of the track. “When you’re in the spotlight, a lot of times you just want to live your life,” he said. “The lyrics in the song show that too. Not just for those in the spotlight. Even in my verse, I say, ‘Hands up in the cookie jar/They’re looking at me/They’re looking at y’all.” “It’s about privacy and other people, and everyone feels like they’re not living a private life on social media. There’s a thin line, and everyone deserves their privacy.”
“Mind Your Business” is Spears’ second musical to be released since 13 years of supervision ending in 2021. She previously collaborated with Elton John on a new version of Tiny Dancer called Hold Me Closer.
Spears and Will.iam previously collaborated on the single “Scream & Shout” in 2013. In the same CBS interview, Will.iam spoke about their musical connection, saying, “Working with her every now and then — when you’re in the studio making music, that’s the only thing that matters. So, I see the same light, the same joy, the same love and passion.”
