It’s been a while since we’ve heard from Car Seat Headrest, but the indie rock project of Will Toledo is back with a cover of Death Cab for Cutie’s “We Looked Like Giants.”
“We Looked Like Giants” originally appeared on Death Cab’s 2003 album Transatlanticism, and the cover arrives in celebration of that record’s 20th anniversary. The split single also contains a cover of The Beths and Pickle Darling teaming up to tribute another 20th anniversary of a Ben Gibbard classic: “Brand New Colony,” from The Postal Service’s sole studio album Give Up.
Toledo’s rendition of “We Looked Like Giants” stays pretty faithful to its original, albeit with a more post-punk inspired slant. Meanwhile, The Beths and Pickle Darling give “Brand New Colony” a rootsy twang with a healthy dose of banjo plucking. Pre-orders are ongoing for the 7″ vinyl, and you can stream both covers below.
While Toledo doesn’t appear to have a ton else going on at the moment, Death Cab and The Postal Service have a few dates left on their co-headlining tour (get tickets here). The Beths are also finishing up their own run of North American tour dates (get tickets here).
For the 20th anniversary of @dcfc ’s Transatlanticism, we jumped into the studio to record a cover of “We Looked Like Giants” listen here and grab a split 7″ that includes @thebeths and @pickledarlinggg covering the @postalservicehttps://t.co/Togp9egZhH
