Corey Taylor has shared “Talk Sick,” the third single from his forthcoming sophomore solo album CMF2, out September 15th.
Taylor’s solo work has seen the Slipknot frontman embracing his hard rock influences and unleashing his wild side in the process. “Talk Sick” is brimming with sharp guitar leads, big power-pop hooks, and Corey’s tangible swagger.
Discussing the song in a press release, Taylor said that he achieved the biting tone of the opening guitar riff by playing it through “a speaker about the size of a coffee cup” — an old Steve Albini trick.
“It made it sound violent; you feel like you’re being stung by bees who are playing along to the Sex Pistols,” said Taylor.
Regarding the lyrics, he added: “There’s an element of spiritual regurgitation, trying to purge yourself of demons that have been clinging to you because of prior relationships, romantic or otherwise. You realize those people bring a certain asshole side out of you that you don’t necessarily want in your life. It’s about trying to lance that boil and get that sickness out of you.”
