Drake has shared the latest installment in his AM/PM freestyle series, “8AM in Charlotte,” on the eve of his new album, For All the Dogs. The track features thinly veiled references to his apparently revived beef with Kanye West. Watch the video, co-starring Drake’s son Adonis, below.
“8AM in Charlotte” opens with a skit in which Adonis breaks down his own drawing and dubs his father as “Daddy Goat” before the soulful production from Conductor Williams kicks in and Drake raps about his usual topics like the pressures of fame and chart dominance, while referencing pop culture figures like Jordan Peele, Lauryn Hill, Shania Twain, and Michael Jackson. On the third verse, he turns up the pressure on unnamed foes.
“You n****s obsessed with me and it’s not on no hetero vibe/ Handle beef so quiet you think that I’m letting it slide/ Next thing you know we tiptoeing past enemy lines,” Drake raps. “Diss me so long ago, we making your memories fly/ Conspiracy theories start floating around like the Kennedy guy/ I’ll probably hold a grudge against you guys ’til I’m 75.”
Drake could be referencing his belief that Kanye West gave Pusha T the information to expose that he was hiding a child on “The Story of Adidon,” though Pusha later clarified he learned about Adonis from Drake’s producer, 40.
He continues by seemingly describing West’s self-induced fall from grace: “We all gotta lay in the bed we make, but that couldn’t be Drake/ You forced a lot of fake love when real ones stood in your face/ That’s why you got deserted by your n****s like pudding and cake/ I got you on camera bowing down but the footage is safe/ Thank God, another USB to put in the safe.”

Following West’s string of antisemitic comments last year, Pusha T was one of his many associates to distance themselves from the artist. Though Drake and Kanye publicly squashed their beef with their Free Larry Hoover benefit concert in 2021, Drake implied on the Her Loss cut “Circo Loco” that it was merely a favor to Rap-A-Lot Records boss J. Prince.
For All the Dogs is the follow-up to Drake’s last solo album, 2022’s Honestly, Nevermind. It will likely include the chart-topping SZA collaboration, “Slime You Out,” which he promoted with a photo of Halle Berry being slimed at the Kids Choice Awards that was used without her permission. The project could also include the April single “Search & Rescue,” which samples a clip of Kim Kardashian talking about getting a divorce from West.
