UK band English Teacher have released their second single for Island Records. “Nearly Daffodils” is another winner, mixing dreampop, postpunk, and motorik drive with Lily Fontaine’s appealing half-sung, half-spoken vocals.
“‘Nearly Daffodils’ is about heartbreak and acceptance of unfulfilled potential,” Fontaine says. “How, no matter how much you may want something, no matter how much effort you may put into something’s growth or development, no matter how beautiful you can envision its fruition; life is a bitch and about as unstoppable as a freight train.” You can watch the video below.
English Teacher have also announced their first-ever US shows which will happen in November. “Playing in the States was merely a pipe dream a few years back, a fantasy tucked away on that seemingly unreachable top shelf But now, here we are announcing shows across the pond,” the band say. “It’s impossible to put the excitement into words to be honest, we just have to constantly pinch ourselves so hard that we practically draw blood.”
They’ll play Brooklyn’s Elsewhere Zone One on November 18 and LA’s Moroccan Lounge on November 22 — tickets for both are on sale now.
They’ve also got UK tour dates before that and all are listed below.
