The 2023 Mercury Prize was awarded tonight at a gala ceremony in London and Ezra Collective‘s Where I’m Meant to Be has won. The album, the jazz quintet’s fourth, beat out records by Arctic Monkeys, Jockstrap, Fred again.., Jessie Ware and others.
“Let me thank god,” said bandleader Femi Koleoso, accepting the award, “cause if a jazz album winning the Mercury Prize doesn’t make you believe in god, I don’t know what will.” Watch the band accept the award, which comes with a £25,000 cash prize, and listen to Where I’m Meant to Be, below.
