Nigerian rapper Falz recently took to social media to criticize the poor state of the Lekki-Epe expressway and Lagos infrastructure overall.
In an Instagram post, Falz highlighted the terrible flooding, damaged roads, and traffic gridlock along the key highway despite Lagos having various officials meant to oversee infrastructure.
“This city has a governor, commissioner of transport, commissioner of works and infrastructure, commissioner of environment and water resources, yet look at this mess,” Falz wrote.
He condemned the “ugly flooded roads everywhere, absolutely dilapidated road structures, deadly potholes on the highway and ridiculous traffic.”
Falz attributed the deplorable conditions to government corruption and mismanagement of public resources needed for infrastructure projects.
While known for political activism, Falz’s strong rebuke of Lagos government still took many by surprise. However, his sentiments echo widespread public frustration over the lack of road maintenance despite expensive tolls.
The viral post put a spotlight on the impacts of the state’s neglect and generated renewed calls for accountability. Lagos authorities are yet to address the grievances.
As an influential Lagos-based celebrity, Falz used his powerful platform to voice everyday citizens’ concerns and dissatisfaction. His prominent call-out increases pressure for much-needed repairs and improvement.
