The father of John Castic, the Goldman Sachs analyst whose body was found in Newtown Creek after he left an event at Brooklyn Mirage headlined by Zeds Dead, thinks his son’s death may have been caused by his peanut allergy. Speaking to The Daily Mail, Jeff Castic said, “We think he either had an allergic reaction – he was allergic to peanuts and maybe ate something without realizing that it contained peanuts – or there was an undetected allergy mixed with alcohol.” William Sullivan, a fellow finance worker, had previously told New York Post that John had left Brooklyn Mirage around 3 AM on Saturday morning when he started feeling sick.
“All of his personal effects were in his possession, where they should have been, so there was no robbery,” Jeff continued to The Daily Mail, saying that police told the family that John’s death isn’t suspicious. “So far it doesn’t look like foul play.”
Police sources told New York Post that authorities are not currently investigating John’s death as linked to that of another man who was found dead in Newtown Creek this summer after leaving Brooklyn Mirage, 27 year old psychologist Karl Clemente. Clemente’s father Alexander told the Post, “I will accept that it was an accidental death — OK, he fell in the water. But what caused it? Why was he running? It’s like a movie. There’s no such thing as a movie where it’s the beginning and the end. You have to see the whole movie.”
Brooklyn Mirage also issued a statement about the deaths on Instagram, writing, “We are saddened by the recent passing of John Castic and Karl Clemente. We send our deepest condolences to the individuals’ families, friends, and all of those who have been impacted. Our of respect to those affected, we have refrained from commenting prematurely. During this time, we encourage the community to come together and support one another. We will continue to provide our full assistance to the investigating authorities.”
