So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
THOUGHTCRIMES – “NATURAL IMPRUDENCE”
Better Lovers aren’t the only Dillinger Escape Plan-related band making metalcore that hearkens back to that band’s classic era right now. Long Island’s thoughtcrimes, the current band of ex-DEP drummer Billy Rymer, have shared new single “Natural Imprudence,” and it’s a rager that sounds straight out of 2004 in a totally refreshing way.

STEPHEN STEINBRINK – “PONY”
Stephen Steinbrink releases his new album, Disappearing Coin, this week and before you get to listen to the whole thing, here’s one last previews. ““Pony” was recorded at Tiny Telephone in Oakland by Adam Hirsch, and features my friend and longterm collaborator Andrew Dorsett on drum kit, hammond organ, piano, and vibraphone,” says Stephen. “I later animated the illustrated video by hand, matching the feeling to the song’s lyrical concept about of the often hilarious chaotic web of cause and effect. I didn’t set out with a narrative plan for the video and instead just let the story take shape on its own— I was pleasantly surprised to discover that it wanted to tell a tale of interplanetary animal liberation catalyzed by a lemon-lime flavored beverage for dogs.”

SARAH MARY CHADWICK – “DRINKIN’ ON A TUESDAY”
Flute flits throughout Sarah Mary Chadwick’s new single “Drinkin’ on a Tuesday,” which also features her long-time collaborator Hank Clifton-Williamson. “This is a reverse resilience song, cause essentially it’s about bouncing back, but in the most lonely blinding searing way possible,” Sarah says. “It’s like the interior of a drunk’s mind, everything is bright and tragic and huge and dark and silent and everybody is new and bright. And all your jokes always land, every single one.” It’s from her new album Messages to God.

MALI OBOMSAWIN & MAGDALENA ABREGO – “THERE THERE”
Mali Obomsawin and Magdalena Abrego have a new duo album on the way, Greatest Hits, and from it they’ve shared spare, haunting folk track “There There,” which premiered on FX series Reservation Dogs. “I wrote the song during lockdown at a moment when the whole world felt incredibly vulnerable, like just if someone gave it the tiniest poke it would crumble,” Mali says. “When we recorded it we were trying to capture that energy. The mics are so hot, the drums are played very, very carefully. Magdalena’s guitar choices are gentle and precise. The song is like a cradle.”
