Dead & Company being done presumably means Playing in the Sand, their annual concert vacation weekend, is done too, but Grateful Dead members Bob Weir and Mickey Hart and their Dead & Co bandmates Jeff Chimenti and Oteil Burbridge have a new Mexico concert vacation planned. The inaugural Dead Ahead Festival happens on January 12-15, 2024 at Moon Palace Resort in Riviera Cancún, Mexico. The event descriptions says it will “celebrate the Grateful Dead songbook featuring two nights of curated collaborations themed ‘Dead Ahead’ with Bobby Weir, Mickey Hart, Jeff Chimenti, Oteil Burbridge, Don Was & Jay Lane featuring Derek Trucks, Susan Tedeschi, Rick Mitarotonda, Margo Price and very special guest Sturgill Simpson.”
Two nights will be headlined by performances from the “Dead Ahead” collaboration, the third by Bobby Weir & Wolf Bros featuring The Wolfpack, and the fourth will feature “a night of celebrations of Jerry Garcia Band featuring Oteil & Friends and Lettuce. Also performing are LP Giobbi, Sierra Hull, Brittney Spencer, Jaime Wyatt and a “late night rhythmic experience” with Mickey Hart’s Noche de Ondas.
All-inclusive packages go on sale Friday, September 15 at 1 PM EDT, and previous Playa Luna guests will have access to a presale starting Thursday, September 14 at 1 PM EDT. Find more details here.
