Great Grandpa lead vocalist Al Menne releases their debut solo album, Freak Accident, this Friday (9/22) via Double Double Whammy, and ahead of that they’ve shared a final advance single, the lush, twangy title track. Menne says that feeling like they don’t belong is “a big theme in the writing. I grew up feeling like I didn’t really belong. I felt kind of like an outsider in my own family for a little bit. I’d ask myself, why do I feel so weird in all of these situations? And I think it’s because I’m trans, and I didn’t know it then.” Watch the video for “Freak Accident,” directed by Noah Morse, below.
Al also announced a couple of record release shows for Freak Accident, in Los Angeles (Bob Baker Marionette Theater on September 21, with Mal) and NYC (Purgatory on October 6, with Jodi and Grumpy). Tickets for each are on sale now.
