Green Day are welcoming listeners to their problems with “Dilemma,” the latest single from their forthcoming album, Saviors.
Opening with a nostalgic-sounding progression carried by an electric guitar, “Dilemma” features Billie Joe Armstrong getting confessional about addiction, singing: “Welcome to my problems/ It’s not an invitation/ This is my dilemma.” The slow intro ends on an open cadence, and then, a drum hit shatters the glass and a rocking, guitar-led beat drops, as Armstrong belts: “I was sober, now I’m drunk again/ I’m in trouble and in love again/ I don’t want to be a dead man walking.”
The band first announced “Dilemma” on social media earlier this week, sharing that they would be “Throwing a rager of a holiday party” upon the single’s release. Now, it’s arrived with a music video, which you can check out below.
“Dilemma” is the third single from Saviors, following “The American Dream Is Killing Me” and “Look Ma, No Brains!” The full album is due on January 19th, 2024, and will likely feature more of a political tilt than most of Green Day’s recent output. Speaking about the band’s return to political songwriting in a recent interview, Armstrong explained: “This time, we brought it out, and we felt like it was the perfect time for it.”
