High on Fire have announced their first album in six years and ninth overall. The LP, titled Cometh the Storm, will arrive on April 19th, and includes the just-released first single “Burning Down.”
Cometh the Storm serves as the highly-anticipated follow-up to 2018’s Electric Messiah. The 11-song album was recorded at GodCity Studio in Salem, Massachusetts, and produced by Converge guitarist Kurt Ballou.
The album is the first High on Fire LP to feature drummer Coady Willis, who joined the band in 2021. The trio is rounded out by founding frontman Matt Pike and longtime bassist Jeff Matz.
“‘Burning Down’ kicks off with a classic Pike riff,” said Matz of the first single. “I think this song harkens back to the early High on Fire sound, but infused with fresh, new elements. It has a killer groove that you can really sink into.”
Speaking about High on Fire’s current dynamic, Pike stated, “I think this band’s always had a really good drive. It’s a different entity. It’s its own thing. Which, I think, makes all of us very proud to be a part of it. It’s not an average band.”
