German hardcore/alt-rock blenders Hippie Trim are back with “Agent Mayhem,” their first new single since their great 2022 LP What Consumes Me. Like that LP, it was mixed by Jon Markson (Drug Church, Drain, Koyo, etc), and it picks up where What Consume Me‘s thrilling, genre-blurring vibes left off, pushing the band’s heavy side and their melodic side to new limits.
The song “deals with the daily run in the hamster wheel,” the band says, “with the madness that prevails every day and is largely tacitly accepted. The lyrics play with the concept of sacrificing one’s own life for the imposed obligations of society and hint at breaking away from them.” It comes with a video that plays off those themes (and comes with an epilepsy warning), and the band says, “This was probably the first time in an office for all of us. We all had shitty jobs before but for Agent Mayhem we wanted to recreate a typical office setting in a comedic way. The video shoot was one of the most fun ones we ever did and resonates to the song’s meaning.” Check it out below.
