Hot Chip are back with a new single featuring featuring Malaysian-Irish artist Yunè Pinku. It’s their first new music since last year’s Freakout/Release. Bandleaders Joe Goddard and Alexis Taylor trade lines in the verses with Pinku’s vocal contributions almost working as percussion. As usual, Hot Chip deftly mix empathy with danceability and you can watch the visualizer below.
“’Fire of Mercy’ relates to the central concept of William Blake’s ‘Songs of Experience’ – it bemoans the corruption that inevitably comes from adulthood and longs for a return to the purity of childhood,” says Goddard. Adds Pinku, “Massive honour to work with Hot Chip as they’re huge legends within the electronic world. When they played me ‘Fire of Mercy’ and asked me to jump on the track, I was thrilled to work with them.”
Hot Chip will be back in the US in September to play San Francisco’s Portola festival, and right before that play L.A.’s Hollywood Palladium on September 28. All dates upcoming dates are listed below.
