Brooklyn’s Hotline TNT will release Cartwheel, their Third Man Records debut, on November 3, and here’s another early taste. Like “Protocol” and “I Thought You’d Change,” “Out of Town” is a smeary blast of shoegazey indie rock.
“These days most people wouldn’t have the foolishness to start a song by singing the words ‘baby girl’ but I wanted to channel my Minnesotan roots and try it out, Paul Westerberg style,” the band’s Will Anderson says of the new song. “Matter of fact I think his influence is all over this tune, we had to betray the Bob Mould guidance one of these days and see how the other half lives. This one’s about losing someone you’re excited about before you even realized you had strong feelings about ‘em.” You can hear what Anderson means about the Mats influence once you get past all those layers of guitar gauze. Listen to “Out of Town” below.
Hotline TNT have a busy tour schedule ahead. They’re on the road now with with Sheer Mag, and when that run wraps up, they’ll head back to NYC to play Indie Ballroom at Rockefeller Center’s The Rainbow Room on October 22 with Wiki and PVA, and then a release show at TV Eye on 10/26 with Blazing Eye, Protocol, Ordinance, and pre-show trivia with Kor Skeete, who you may know from the first episode of Nathan Fielder’s The Rehearsal.
Later this fall Hotline TNT open for Quicksand on the West Coast, and in early 2024 they’ll join Wednesday on tour. They’re not currently listed on Wednesday’s NYC show at Brooklyn Steel on January 25, but that could change after Hotline TNT’s two shows this month. All dates are listed below.
