Former Belle & Sebastian member and Mark Lanegan collaborator Isobel Campbell has announced a new album, Bow to Love, her first in four years, which is out May 17 via Cooking Vinyl. “The album is about what we’re all in right now, and my response to that and my life as a microcosm within that,” says Campbell. “I think there’s a quote from A Course In Miracles which says, ‘Love brings up everything unlike itself for the purpose of healing and release.’ Maybe these horrible things are coming up and out so we can get rid of them and things can be better.”
The album’s 13 songs, which are also performed in French on the 2-disc CD version, include a cover of Dire Straits’ “Why Worry,” and the first single is “4316,” which is lightly psychedelic in a Spacemen 3 sort of way. The video was directed by Richard Heslop, whose CV includes clips for The Cure, New Order, Ace of Base, Happy Mondays, Sinead O’Connor and more, and who hasn’t made a video in a decade.
