Janelle Monáe is truly in her Age of Pleasure. It’s been four months since her latest album arrived, and now, she’s back with a remix of one of the record’s standout tracks: “Champagne Shit.” Listen to the new version featuring Quavo and Latto below.
Built around the same upbeat arrangement as the original, the “Champagne Shit” remix is an ode to the good life. Monáe’s verses about throwing “tips” and “hips” set the tone, with Quavo coming in with references to the “ice” on his collar and “champagne” on his wrist, and lines like, “Bring some models and bring me more bottles.” Latto, meanwhile, delivers a hard-hitting, pleasure-seeking verse, with the closing line: “Trying go home to the D like a piston.” Stream the track below.
The Age of Pleasure debuted on June 9th and has been praised for embracing freedom, joy, and, of course, pleasure. Speaking about the album, Monáe told Kyle Meredith that it’s “a love letter to the diaspora,” which is part of why she wanted to secure solid features, like Grace Jones, Sister Nancy, and more. “It was only right to include these strong powerful voices that soundtrack our parties all the time,” she said. Now, with the “Champagne Shit” remix, two more voices are augmenting the project.
Meanwhile, you can catch Monáe performing songs from the album on her ongoing “Age of Pleasure Tour,” which will conclude later this month. Named by Consequence as one of the 11 essential pop tours to catch this fall, Monáe will close out the run with two dates in the South, a handful of Southwest shows, and two final performances in California. As for Quavo, earlier this year he shared “Without You,” a tribute track to his late nephew, Takeoff. This past June, he reunited with his former Migos bandmate Offset for a performance of “Bad & Boujee” at the BET Awards.
Latto, meanwhile, was nominated for Best New Artist at the 2023 Grammy Awards, and recently appeared on Jungkook’s single “Seven,” which was named Consequence’s Song of the Week when it dropped in July.
