Japanese Breakfast are nearing the end of their touring for 2021’s fantastic Jubliee, and for one of the final shows of the album cycle, they headlined their biggest NYC show yet, at Radio City Music Hall on Thursday (10/5). They were in high spirits, with Michelle Zauner jumping around the stage and joyfully hitting her gong over and over; the crowd was in the mood to celebrate too, with much of the crowd singing along the whole night.
For the encore, they covered Simon & Garfunkel’s classic “The Only Living Boy in New York;” watch attendee-taken video of that, along with a few other songs, and see Japanese Breakfast’s setlist below.
Japanese singer/songwriter Ichiko Aoba opened Thursday night’s show, and Michelle wrote on Instagram, “Words can’t express how much I love Ichiko’s music and how grateful I am she has joined us on these last shows. I discovered her music traveling alone in Sweden, she was a perfect companion as I walked through the cold streets of old town and rediscovered a bit of myself through lonely travel. Since then her music has often soothed me to sleep or through stressful flights when nothing else seems to bring me the same peace and wonder. The best part of my job is I now get to call her my friend. Please make sure to come early to catch her set. We are so lucky!”

Michelle makes an appearance at the New Yorker Festival on Saturday (10/7) at Webster Hall, where she’ll perform and talk with Hua Hsu. Then, Japanese Breakfast have a hometown Philly show at The Fillmore on Halloween (10/31) with Crooks and Nannies (Hop Along had to drop off).
