So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
BMX BANDITS – “SETTING SUN”
Scottish indie cult legends BMX Bandits — who traveled in the same orbit as Teenage Fanclub (Norman Blake was in the band for a while) and The Vaselines, will release their 12th album, Dreamers on the Run, in 2024. Duglas Stewart’s melodic gifts are still sharp as the album’s single shows.

THE GOLDEN DREGS – POPULAR MUSIC VOL.1 (BILLIE EILISH, LANA DEL REY, CAROLINE POLACHEK COVERS)
Benjamin Woods’ The Golden Dregs have released the first of a series of EP where they cover, as the title says, popular songs. For the premiere outing, they’ve taken on Lana Del Rey, Billie Eilish and Caroline Polachek. He says: “Lana Del Rey’s ‘Dealer’ has been on heavy rotation in the tour van since it was released, and we’ve often talked about covering it. In the past I’ve found I like to record a version of someone else’s song before working on my own – it can set the tone of a record without me worrying about what the song is so much, and allow me to explore textures and melodies that I might not arrive at myself. We’re about to head into the studio to work on our next album, so it felt like the right time to give our cover of ‘Dealer’ a go. This idea grew into exploring some of our favourite contemporary pop songs. We’re big fans of all of them – Lana Del Rey for her dark lyrics and sprawling arrangements, Billie Eilish for her subtle understated textures and haunting vocals, and Caroline Polachek for her bombastic maximalism. It was a lot of fun existing within these songs, and reinterpreting them – they each lent themselves nicely to some rich vocal textures and synthesis that we are moving towards for our next album.”

Adam Green tribute album Moping in Style is out next week, and among those covering his songs is Devendra Banhart, who turns in a lovely, ethereal version of “Pay the Toll,” which is very different from the original version on 2006’s Jacket Full of Danger.
