Joanna Sternberg has been riding high all year off the strength of their new album I’ve Got Me, which has now been landing on multiple major year-end lists, and now they’ve kept the momentum going with another new non-album track, “Without You,” following the recent “Neighbors.” “Without You” is a raw, intimate song with some old timey whimsy that Joanna says was recorded at home and not originally intended to be made public.
“I wrote this song in an attempt at writing a 1920’s style jazzy number,” Joanna adds. “I even try soloing by scatting in the middle of it! I went to college for jazz double bass and am a huge fan of listening to and playing (and singing) jazz. I will always continue to try and write more songs in this style. This song is meant to be sung in a sort of half-joking manner and the tempo is meant to keep speeding up throughout the song to show the emotion I am trying to convey: nervousness from co-dependent attachment to something or someone you love.” Listen below.
Joanna has also announced new West Coast tour dates for 2024, ahead of appearances at Big Ears, Kilby Block Party, and Primavera Sound. All dates are listed below.
