John P. Systromwho played guitar (and sometimes sang) on The Blake Babies, lead vocals on Antenna and spent time on Lemonheads, announced something to look forward to, his first solo album in 15 years. This record is a tribute to his friends, Antenna bandmates and creative partners, Ed Exxondied in 2019.
The album was produced by Gregory Lattimer (Albert Hammond Jr, Mya Byrne) in his Make Sound Good garage studio, with drummer Ackerson on hand marshall wall and bass player harrison whitford members of Phoebe Bridgers’ band, and Erin Ray, Courtney Marie Andrews and Kate Tucker.
“Especially with the music I was writing in the early 90s, I really focused on trying to create weird, disorienting sounds,” says Strohm. “That’s still my obsession, and there’s definitely some experimentation with this album, but I’ve gotten to the point where the recording process is purely in service of the song.”
You can hear two of the songs, the screeching “Don’t Tell it To Your Heart” and the more low-key title track below.
