A Joyce Manor show in Jacksonville, FL was shut down by the fire marshall on Friday night (3/8). Attendees say the band were half an hour into their set at an afterparty for Collective Con at Prime Osborn Convention Center (which had originally been scheduled at another Jacksonville venue, Underbelly, and later moved to the convention center) when the show was stopped. Video footage shows security standing onstage during “Constant Headache,” and people being detained by police.
witchfit on Reddit wrote, “had who is assuming was an event organizer come on stage 5 mins into the set and tell everyone to stop moshing/crowd surfing so we could ‘have a safe show’ to which people booed and cursed him off stage. few mins later they planted a security guard in the middle of the stage to throw people off if they got on stage to dive/crowd surf. ended up forcefully escorting a few off stage. minutes later the band announced the fire marshall was shutting the show down. i left pretty soon after that because i could tell it was gonna be bad news if i hung around, but my friends and i walked outside to what had to be at LEAST 10-13 cop cars lit up. that’s when the arrests started happening and a whole army attacking a bunch of kids who did nothing wrong.”

huge fuck you to the Prime F. Osborn III Convention Center and the Jacksonville Police Department, this is literally what event insurance is for. don’t host a punk show if you’re not gonna handle it properly

saw it being shut down a mile away bc they kept telling the crowd to calm down but went overboard so fast. infuriating to see one of the smallest and calmest dudes there being picked on by the cops just bc they got lumped in with the crowd

about 2 songs in people were crowdsurfing over cops while flicking them off lmfao kinda badass but def got them in their feels. obviously need to make the department take anger management courses

venue changed a week or two before the show, definitely not organized well at all. was told the previous venue had a capacity issue

Porch Coffin, who opened the show along with Glazed, shared an Instagram story:
Neither the convention nor Joyce Manor have issued a statement about the show at this time. See more attendee footage and accounts below.
crowd at joyce manor was genuinely tame as hell in terms of moshing until jso rushed in after maybe 2 minutes? even the band members said to take down the barricades but pigs wanted to beat up kids so bad they stayed in the pit to yell at ppl bumping into them

now in between the joyce manor set starting and getting shut down (and even during glazeds set) people are push moshing dancing etc, obv during joyce it gets more rowdy, now there is no signage saying to not mosh or crowdsurf, and now security/jso are manhandling people and

my main thing is (my opinion & assumption) how unprepared and devil may care the venue and show runners were it was like theyve never threw a big show; barricade not even close to secure, security off to the side and not in between barricade/stage to catch people

It was for what normally happens at a punk show. Moshing, stage diving, and crowd surfing. They had a cop in the pit for @glazedfl. Cop in the pit threatening to send people to jail during Joyce’s first song.

So I just saw half a Joyce Manor show because the fire marshal shut it down because of the pit.
Weird night.
