So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.

FANCLUBWALLET – SMALL SONGS VOL. 1
Ottawa-based musician Hannah Judge is back with a new EP as fanclubwallet, Small Songs Vol. 1, out now via AWAL. It’s the follow-up to her 2022 debut You Have Got To Be Kidding Me, and a preview for more music she has on the way this year. “When I feel the smallest, I turn on my old casio keyboard and I make songs in the dark in my room,” she says. “This is how fanclubwallet started — just me and some crappy gear in my childhood bedroom. Recently I’ve been writing with my band more which has been amazing, but I wanted to get something out to remind myself of where things started when it was just me and no one else. These songs feel like anxiety bundled up and packaged ready to go, really truly honest fanclubwallet songs. What it sounds like with just me and my silly sad brain behind the wheel.”
—
KEVIN ABSTRACT – “BLANKET”
Kevin Abstract of Brockhampton is back with a new solo single, and it finds him going in a loud-quiet-loud, ’90s alt-rock direction. A press release says it’s “not a red herring, but indicative of what’s to come from Kevin Abstract in this new era.” His last solo album was 2019’s Arizona Baby. Stay tuned for more.

KING CREOSOTE – “IT’S SIN THAT’S GOT ITS HOLD UPON US”
Scottish cult legend Kenny Anderson returns with his first King Creosote album, I DES, on November 3 via Domino and he’s just shared a new song from it. Says Anderson: “In Autumn 2020 I began building a modular synth, recording patches onto old cassette tapes to make use of the pitch wheel on my tape deck at a later date. As the drum track rumbled to a close, these words from one of Phil Crowter’s sermons burst forth exactly as you hear them, and I had my chorus. The four short verses ought to take on different meanings depending on the listeners’ particular choice of drugs – recreational (whimsical), prescribed (personal), or mandated (diabolical).”

CENTRAL PLAINS – “CIGARS DIPPED IN HONEY”
Brooklyn group Central Plains have released this new EP featuring four songs that should appeal to fans of ’90s indie rock like Built to Spill and Modest Mouse.
—
SLIFT – “ILION”
Formed in 2016 by brothers Jean and Remí Fossat and Canek Flores, SLIFT make a brand of crushing psych that quickly gained them a reputation for their intense live shows, as well as comparisons to Godspeed! You Black Emperor and And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead. Their 2018 debut was in Oh Sees territory but they’ve gotten much heavier since. SLIFT have now signed to Sub Pop, who will release their third album, ILION, on January 19. Here’s the title track.
