Alex Levine of So So Glos was diagnosed with cancer, and is raising money on GoFundMe to help pay for his treatment. So So Glos played a Shine a Light series benefit show for the Tommy Brull Foundation, which helps people with special needs, in 2018, and the foundation dedicated their most recent show, with Kevin Morby on Sunday (8/27) at Long Island’s Molloy College, to raising money for Levine. A message from them on Instagram reads:
Alex has been diagnosed with Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma and is starting the long road of treatment imminently. We decided instead of our usual route of paying-it-forward, we would like to pay-it-back and raise some funds from our show with @kevinmorby coming up in 3 weeks (8/27/23) to help out with the exorbitant medical cost of his treatment. The So So Glos were so kind to us and played our show for literally nothing. KARMA is a real thing. Please buy a ticket and help out our local community member.
Kevin brought out his partner Katie Crutchfield, aka Waxahatchee, for his set, and you can see pictures by Kurt Christensen, and a couple of attendee-taken videos, below.
The Hold Steady also played a Shine a Light show earlier this month.
