Kronos Quartet are celebrating their 50th anniversary with a special NYC show at Carnegie Hall on November 3. “Kronos Quartet: Five Decades” will feature a short film by Sam Green, the New York premieres of Carnegie Hall co-commissioned works by Michael Gordon and Gabriella Smith, and the performance of a new “Sunrise Jam” version of Terry Riley‘s Sunrise of the Planetary Dream Collector for 50 musicians.
The list of performers also includes Ariel Aberg-Riger, Laurie Anderson, Jake Blount, Brian Carpenter, Jacob Garchik, Soo Yeon Lyuh, Tanya Tagaq, Wu Man, Aizuri Quartet, Attacca Quartet, Bang on a Can All-Stars, PUBLIQuartet, Sō Percussion, and more to be announced. Tickets are on sale now.
Also coming up at Carnegie Hall is the American Composers Orchestra‘s “The Quest: Epic Journeys,” happening on November 9 at Zankell Hall. Performers include Vimbayi Kaziboni (conductor), Sidney Outlaw (baritone), Nina C. Young (electronics), and R. Luke Dubois (video design). Here’s more from the program description:
The American Composers Orchestra premieres music by hundreds of today’s top composers, and no two concerts are alike. In this program, they offer a wide-ranging musical testament to humanity’s bold endeavors. Works include a multimedia rendering of a famed (and ultimately doomed) expedition to the North Pole, written by Nina C. Young; a world premiere by composer and jazz pianist Guillermo Klein; a world premiere by George Lewis, one of the leading exponents of experimental music today; an Augusta Read Thomas composition originally written to precede Beethoven’s Sixth Symphony; and a world premiere by Jack Hughes.
