Laura Jane Grace is back with the new song “Dysphoria Hoodie,” as well as details of a brief run of tour dates slated for the end of 2023 and beginning of 2024. Check out the single and tour itinerary below.
A transgender folk song of sorts, “Dysphoria Hoodie” finds Grace, alone with an acoustic guitar, saluting her favorite security blanket hoodie. “This is a song about gender dysphoria and your favourite hooded sweatshirt,” the artist shared in a statement.
“Any trans person out there knows what a dysphoria hoodie is — it’s the hoodie you wear when feeling low and dysphoric and you don’t want the world reading your gender,” she continued. “Hide your body shape, hide your head, disappear as much as you can. Wrap yourself up in it like a blanket anywhere you go. Make your flesh become cotton. Instant protection from the outside world. My dysphoria hoodie happens to be an Adidas hoodie, so yes, this is in fact really just a tribute song to my favourite Adidas hoodie.”
Along with the new song, Grace has announced a run of concerts kicking off this fall. First, the songwriter will perform at The FESTin her native Gainesville, Florida on October 29th before appearing on Flogging Molly’s Salty Dog Cruise in November. In December, Grace will kick off a brief headlining tour with support from Mya Byrne. That trek hits St. Louis, Lawrence, Kansas, Denver, Omaha, and Minneapolis before wrapping up in Madison, Wisconsin on January 6th.
Tickets to all of Grace’s shows are on sale now via Grace’s website (use code LJGNYE), while the general on-sale begins Friday, October 6th via Ticketmaster.
Grace’s last release was the 2021 EP At War with the Silverfish.
