Rui Gabriel is one half of duo Lawn, with whom he’s made three albums, but he’s just announced his signing to Carpark as a solo artist. With that news, he’s released his debut solo single, “Target,” a low key, warmly melodic track featuring backing vocals from Kate Teague.
‘Target’ was written after the abrupt end of a friendship that was already running its course” Gabriel says on the song’s creation which was also born during an obsession with Dido. “I became fixated on the aftermath and realized that the emotions behind these circumstances were more intense than anything I’ve felt in any breakup.”
While the song is nicely earthy, “Target” lifts off the ground in it’s gently soaring second half, flying on a breeze of airy synths. The video, directed by Cameron Lowe, premiere in this post — watch below.
Rui Gabriel says more music will be out soon.
