Back in October 2018, The Feelies played a special show at Jersey City’s White Eagle Hall where their main set was all Velvet Underground covers. (It was in conjunction with the Velvet Underground Experience exhibit that was running in NYC at the time.) That show, featuring appearances by The Bongos‘ Richard Barone and James Mastro, is now a live album. The Feelies have always thrown in a VU cover or two in their marathon live shows — the band are clearly a formative influence — but it’s a lot of fun to hear them do a full 18-song set.
Some Kinda Love: Performing The Music Of The Velvet Underground is out Friday via Bar-None (pre-order) but you can listen to the whole thing right now — a stream of the album premieres in this post. Check that out below.
The Feelies have a couple upcoming live shows: Woodstock’s The Colony on November 16, and Philadelphia’s World Cafe Live on November 17.
