lost girlduo Jenny Hvar and Howard Walden, return with their first new music since their stellar debut in 2021. “Ruins” is a dark and powerful dream-pop track dominated by sustained beats and fuzzy bass.
“Håvard sent me this long, wonderful, kaleidoscopic bass line on the drum machine track, and I didn’t know what to do with it,” says Hval. “It felt so difficult trying to learn or tame it. I started improvising and moving parts around a bit, and the song started to feel like being lost in a night city or a cemetery, walking around in circles, maybe running, maybe hiding. After a bit of improvisation, I realized I was singing this movement pattern, but as a band practice in the 90s, when I was just starting to play with other guys. If Ruins is anything, it’s A practice of discovery, young and lost, feeling as though you are approaching something ancient and magical.”
