Taja Cheek, the experimental multi-instrumentalist who operates under L’Rain, has announced her third studio album, I Killed Your Dog, which arrives Oct. 13 via Mexican Summer.
Today, she’s shared her lysergic new single “Pet Rock,” which references the Strokes and “dad rock” bands like Pink Floyd. L’Rain is also coming off recent tours with Animal Collective and black midi, and it’s easy to hear how she finds kinship with those artists, as her latest is a riffy, disorienting psych-rock track that rewards multiple listens.

“The song is based around an old story I’d been told about a woman who was riding the train but looked strange, and the reader eventually figures out that she’s dead, with glasses on, being propped up by the people that seem to have harmed her,” Cheek says. “As a lifelong collector of tchotchkes, the music video is based on a concept I came up with featuring miniatures.”
