NYC indie rock greats Madder Rose have announced their first live performance in 24 years, as part of this weekend’s Dromedary Records 30th anniversary celebration in the Hudson Valley. The show will feature all original members, including guitarist Matt Verta-Ray, and is part of the all-day Sunday show (9/17) at Catskill’s Avalon Lounge, that also features Lotion, Aussie band Dippers (fka Thigh Master), The Mommyheads, Jenny Toomey & friends, and more. They are a last-minute replacement for Monsterland, who had to drop off. Tickets are on sale.
Madder Rose’s original run was 1991-1999, and they released two great albums on Atlantic Records imprint SEED, then went trip hop for 1997’s Tragic Magic, and then returned to fuzzy indie rock for 1999’s Hello June Fool. Twenty years later, Mary Lorson and Billy Coté reactivated Madder Rose and released To Be Beautiful, and this August released No One Gets Hurt Ever. But this will be their first show since the ’90s, and let’s hope there are more to come. Listen to the new album, and a few ’90s classics below.
The first day of Drom30 is Saturday (9/16) with Das Damen, Antietam, Sleepyhead, Flower and more. Check out the full two-day lineup below.
