The shooter responsible for legendary rapper Tupac Shakur‘s 1996 death has remained a mystery for 27 years, but now, in what’s being called a “long-awaited breakthrough,” a man has been arrested in connection with Tupac’s murder. The Associated Press reports that Duane “Keffe D” Davis was arrested early on Friday morning in the Las Vegas area on suspicion of murder. Davis has previously admitted in interviews and in his 2019 memoir Compton Street Legend that he was in the Cadillac that the gunfire that killed Shakur came from. AP did not provide more details, but an indictment is expected later on Friday (9/29).
Davis’ wife’s home was searched by police earlier this year. The warrant, viewed by CNN, said police were looking for “items that tend to show evidence of motive and/or the identity of the perpetrator such as photographs or undeveloped film, insurance policies and letters, address and telephone records, diaries, and other documents.” According to CNN, multiple tablets, an iPhone, five computers, USB and hard drives, photographs, “purported marijuana,” an issue of Vibe about Tupac, and a copy of Compton Street Legends were all taken from the home during the raid.
This is a developing story. Stay tuned for more details.
