Mannequin Pussy have announced a new album, I Got Heaven, due March 1 via Epitaph (pre-order). The album was produced by John Congleton, and the band wrote the album in person with John, making for a much more collaborative process than usual. It’s also the band’s first album with new member Maxine Steen, who also plays with MP leader Marisa Dabice in Rosie Thorne, and the recently-released title track had started out as one of Steen’s demos.
“I Got Heaven” was one of the band’s most provocative songs yet, while new single “I Don’t Know You” shows off a more tender side of Mannequin Pussy. “This is simply a song about having a crush,” Marisa says. “About the excitement and playful fantasy that can come from meeting someone unexpectedly at a festival, or on the street, or in line at the grocery store. You don’t know when you’ll see them again but the rush of their possibility lingers, making you yearn to know more about them.”
She later adds, “There’s just so much constantly going on that feels intentionally evil that trying to make something beautiful feels like a radical act.”
