Welsh post-hardcore vets Mclusky had to postpone the second leg of their Mclusky Do Dallas 20th anniversary North American tour due to vocalist/guitarist Andy Falkous dealing with chronic hearing issues, and in order to reschedule the dates, they’ll need some costly new US visas. As Stereogum points out, to help them raise money for the tour, they’ve just put out a new four-song release on Bandcamp. It’s the first Mclusky release since their 2006 comp Mcluskyism and first new music since their 2004 album The Difference Between Me and You Is That I’m Not on Fire. (Though Falkous and longtime drummer Jack Egglestone have released new music together with their bands Future of the Left and Christian Fitness since then.) They also reveal that a new album is “half recorded” and expected next year. The lineup on this release is Falkous, Egglestone, and bassist/vocalist Damien Sayell who joined in 2014.
The release, a double a-side single called “unpopular parts of a pig / the digger you deep,” features three songs that explore the band’s gnarly, noisy side, and things close out with the more tender “that was my brain on elves.” The whole thing is awesome, and you can help the band out by purchasing on Bandcamp. It’s also streaming below. The band writes:
hey, look at this – it’s a double a side.
IS IT? yes, yes it is.
BUT THERE’S NO SUCH THING ANYMORE! right. well, there is if i say so.
WHY? why anything?
OKAY, WHY NOW? better question. well, we recorded it and thought we might release it in order to raise money towards the ridiculously expensive us visas we require if we’re to finish what we started in that stupid, wonderful country.
THAT’S PRETTY DIRECT! That’s entertainment, boy face.
ARE THERE MORE SONGS? yup.
WHEN WILL THEY BE RELEASED? next year. an album is half recorded. we just need to write and record the second half but that’ll be easy.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE JANES ADDICTION SONG? Ace of Spades.
OKAY, I GET IT, YOU’RE ZONING OUT. I ASSUME THAT’S ALL FOR NOW THEN? yes. yes it is.
