Mclusky are making a comeback. After 19 years since releasing what was thought to be their final studio album, The Difference Between Me and You Is That I’m Not on Fire, the cult Welsh post-hardcore band have shared four new songs: a double A-side single “Unpopular Parts of a Pig/The Digger You Deep,” plus B-sides “Fan Learning Difficulties” and “That Was My Brain on Elves.”
Returning fans will recognize the classic Mclusky sound here, defined largely by plenty of zippy guitar riffs and vocalist Andrew Falkous’ distinct sneer. “Unpopular Parts of a Pig,” “The Digger You Deep,” and “Fan Learning Difficulties” are all headbang-worthy, mosh pit-starting rippers, while “That Was My Brain on Elves” is a stripped-down number with gentle vocal harmonies and spare, plucked guitars, which offer an unexpected — yet welcome — change of pace.
In the single’s Bandcamp notes, the members of Mclusky note that they do, in fact, have more new music on the horizon, with the first half of their fourth studio album now completed: “We just need to write and record the second half but that’ll be easy,” they explain.
For now, you can hear the four new songs below.
In 2006, Mclusky released a singles and rarities compilation called Mcluskyism. 20th anniversaryLast year, they played some shows commemorating the of their classic sophomore album Mclusky Do Dallas.
