Meatbodies, the Ty Segall-adjacent band led by Chad Ubovich, have announced a new album, Flora Ocean Tiger Bloom ,which will be out March 8 via In the Red. The album was made through a lot of personal upheaval. “A lot happened with this record – it took me five years, I was out of a band, I had a drug problem, the album almost didn’t happen, the pandemic made it almost not happen again, and then in the end I almost died in the hospital, lost my house, and had to learn to walk again,” Ubovich says. “It’s been quite a road, but I could not be more thrilled with the final output. I guess the juice was worth the squeeze?”
Like a lot of groups born of this scene, Meatbodies seem to have abandoned the garage, and in their case, are going a distinct ’90s alt-rock route. You can hear that on first single “HOLE,” that brings to mind Smashing Pumpkins and Tripping Daisy. “That was one of the first songs I wrote, and I think it’s really indicative of that time,” says Ubovich. “How I was thinking and feeling and what I wanted to accomplish with this LP before I even knew it.” Watch the video below.
Meatbodies will also be on tour in 2024, including a Brooklyn show at Market Hotel on April 27. All dates are listed below.
