Mexico screamo band Joliette are releasing a new EP, Luz de Bengala, this Friday (8/25) via Zegema Beach Records (pre-order). We’re premiering its second single “Charlotte,” a raw-yet-beautiful dose of screamo that aims to look at a breakup in a more positive light than your usual breakup song. It comes with a video filmed at some of the band’s shows earlier this year. Bassist Gastón Prado says:
The lyrics of the song are a direct reference to an ex-girlfriend. I have noticed that most breakup songs can be very negative or downright bitter. But I wanted to talk about it in a positive light. Maybe things didn’t work out, but in the moment I felt like a very lucky person for having the opportunity to share a few years with her. In the song I talk about how impressed and proud I am of everything she has accomplished, and about how I will always be wishing her the best no matter what happens.
We really liked this song and how it translates to a live performance, so we decided to try to capture that on video during the course of a few live shows. The shows took place between late April and early July, and we had a lot of fun filming all that footage. We hope that the end product can transmit the passion and the fun behind its inception.
