So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
MGMT – “DANCING IN BABYLON” (ft. CHRISTINE AND THE QUEENS)
MGMT’s “Dancing In Babylon” is an ’80s pop-style duet with Christine and the Queens, and it’s the band’s first-ever song with a guest feature. It comes with a Ray Tintori-directed video starring MGMT, Christine and the Queens, actor Julian Morris, and Julian’s husband Landon Ross, and there are also cameos from John Cameron Mitchell and more. The band’s new album Loss of Life comes out this week.

MARNIE STERN – “SIXTEEN”
Marnie Stern’s new single “Sixteen” was recorded at the same time as the songs from 2023’s The Comeback Kid, her first album in a decade. It’ll be available as a flexi-disc at her upcoming West Coast tour, and she describes it as a “slow, heavy rock song equally inspired by Royal Trux and AC/DC.”

MOOR MOTHER – “ALL THE MONEY” (ft. ALYA AL SULTANI, prod. VIJAY IYER)
Moor Mother has shared another song from The Great Bailout, and it’s a dark, ominous song that “[examines] the money made from the enslavement of Africans in Great Britian.”

WYE OAK – “LOGIC OF COLOR (VARIATION)”
Wye Oak are celebrating the 10th anniversary of their fourth album, Shriek, with a new collection of five of its songs, reimagined by composer William Brittelle. The first is “Logic of Color,” which now features Metropolis Ensemble, Paul Wiancko, and Lizzie Burns.

ANOTHER MICHAEL – “IS THERE A WORLD?”
Another Michael’s new album Pick Me Up, Turn Me Upside Down will be out May 31 via Run For Cover, and here’s the featherlight indie pop of “Is There A World?”. They also announced a tour with Tenci, including Brooklyn’s Sultan Room on May 22.

ADRIANNE LENKER – “FOOL”
“I feel like I can hear her laughing and smiling when I listen back to this song,” producer Philip Weinrobe says of “Fool,” the latest single off Adrianne Lenker’s anticipated new album Bright Future. “The joy is palpable. It’s easy to forget that Adrianne can do unbridled ecstatic happiness just as deftly as every other emotion in the human experience.”

CLIPPING. – “TIPSY” (J-KWON COVER) & COOLING PRONGS – “MIDNIGHT”
Experimental rap troi clipping. put their spin on J-Kwon’s classic “Tipsy” for Stereogum‘s 2000s covers comp Save Stereogum, and now they’ve released it as a single via Sub Pop, backed by a noise track from Cooling Prongs.

THE HOLY GHOST TABERNACLE CHOIR & ROTTING IN DIRT SPLIT
The Holy Ghost Tabernacle Choir and Rotting In Dirt both make various forms of chaotic, mathy hardcore, and they pair very well on this short but sweet split EP.

HATE FORCE – “HATEFUL CREATOR”
Chicago death metal band Hate Force (members of Harms Way, Weekend Nachos, and more) have announced a new LP, Systems of Terror, due March 29 via Closed Casket Activities. Here’s the brutal lead single “Hateful Creator.”

THE RACCOONS – “BITE BACK” & “GO”
The Raccoons are a Ramonescore band with members of Late Bloomer, Alright, and Faye, and they’ve just dropped these two songs via Self Aware Records.

BARELY CIVIL – “NOT FINE”
Milwaukee emo band Barely Civil have shared another taste of their upcoming album I’d Say I’m Not Fine, and this one finds them in earthy, climactic, Manchester Orchestra-esque territory.

ROTTING CHRIST – “LIKE FATHER, LIKE SON”
Greek metal vets Rotting Christ will release their new album Pro Xristou on May 24 via Season of Mist, and new single “Like Father, Like Son” finds them in triumphant form.

BULLION – “A CITY’S NEVER” (ft. PANDA BEAR)
Having recently shared the song with Carly Rae Jepsen, electronic producer Bullion now shares the bouncy Panda Bear collab from his upcoming album Affection (due 4/26 via Ghostly).

SCHOOLBOY Q – “LOVE BIRDS” (ft. DEVIN MALIK & LANCE SKIIIWALKER) & “COOTIES”
Schoolboy Q has shared two more songs rom Blue Lips, a soul song with Devin Mailk and Lance Skiiiwalker called “Love Birds” and a more typical Schoolboy Q song called “Cooties.”

THE VOIDZ – “ALL THE SAME”
“All the Same” starts like it’s gonna be a tender ballad but then Julian Casablancas’ vocodered singing hits and takes it somewhere else. The song is from the soundtrack to upcoming film Drugstore June.

MAGIC TUBER STRINGBAND – “TWELFTH HOUSE”
North Carolina fiddle duo Magic Tuber Stringband take Appalachian music into new territory and will release album Needlefall on March 22.

KLAUS JOHANN GROBE – “TRY”
Swiss duo Klaus Johann Grove will release io tu il loro — their first album with English lyrics — on March 22 and this is the groovy second single.

SHOP TALK – “WCUD”
Brooklyn’s Shop Talk channel classic UK punk (Buzzocks, The Damned) and have just released this buzzsaw earworm.

DRAHLA – “SECOND RHYTHM”
Leeds, UK band Drahla will release their second album, angletape, on April 5 via Captured Tracks. “Second Rhythm” is a kiss wrapped in a brick.

KHRUANGBIN – “MAY NINTH”
Khruangbin have shared another single of their upcoming album A LA SALA. “May Ninth” is especially chill for the trio, who specialize in downtempo grooves, and is one of their most effective vocal outings yet.

REAL ESTATE – “FLOWERS”
Real Estate have pulled off some big ’90s-adjacent swings with the music videos for their new album Daniel, which is out this Friday. First they reunited Pete & Pete for “Water Underground,” and now they’ve shared the video for “Flowers.” It was directed by animator Magnus Carlsson, who also made Radiohead’s “Paranoid Android.”

KNEECAP – “SICK IN THE HEAD”
Irish rap trio Kneecap have announced their official debut album, Fine Art, which will be out June 14 via Heavenly Recordings. The group, who rap in a mix of Irish and English, made it with producer Toddla T, and it features contributions from Lankum’s Radie Peat, Grian Chatten of Fontaines D.C. and Jelani Blackman.

NOURISHED BY TIME – “HAND ON ME”
Nourished by Time (aka Baltimore artist Marcus Brown) has announced the Catching Chickens EP, which will be his first release for XL Recordings and out March 22. The first single from the EP is the chill but funky “Hand on Me”

A PLACE TO BURY STRANGERS – “CHANGE YOUR GOD”
Brooklyn psych-noise greats A Place to Bury Strangers have announced new singles series, The Sevens, where they will release four 7″ singles between now and April via their own Dedstrange label. The first of those is out this week.

OLD 97’S – “WHERE THE ROAD GOES” FT PETER BUCK
After spending last year celebrating their 30th anniversary, Old 97’s have announced American Primitive, their 13th album, which will be out April 5 via ATO. The band made the album in Portland with producer Tucker Martine (My Morning Jacket, The Decemberists, Neko Case), and contributions from Peter Buck and Scott McCaughey of REM, The Baseball Project, and Filthy Friends.

LIGHTNING BUG – “DECEMBER SONG”
‘No Paradise’ is Lightning Bug’s fourth album and will be out May 2. This is the string-laden first single.

Country singer Emily Nenni has announced a new album, Drive & Cry, along with new single “Get To Know Ya.”
