Mohamed Salah has been tipped to leave Liverpool for the Saudi Pro League next year by his compatriot Mido.
The 31-year-old was heavily linked with a move to Al-Ittihad in the latter stages of the summer transfer window. The Reds rejected a £150 million bid from the Saudi giants for the Egyptian superstar.
Liverpool held on to Salah once the Saudi transfer window slammed shut on September 7. However, Mido still reckons the legendary winger will eventually head to the Middle East and that it could happen next year.
Mido wants the Egypt international to close the chapter on his Anfield career by winning the Premier League title this season. He told King Fut:
“Mohamed Salah will go to the Saudi Pro League. But it will be a good thing if he manages to win the Premier League title first this season.”
Mido then backed Salah to head to Saudi for a fee of around £70-100 million:
“After the next season, he will have only one season left on his contract with Liverpool. Next year, Liverpool will not be able to ask for more than £70 or 80 or 100 million for the sale of Mohamed Salah.”
The Reds hero has been vital for Jurgen Klopp ever since he arrived on Merseyside six years ago. He has been a revelation, bagging 188 goals and 81 assists in 309 games across competitions. He has won the Premier League, the UEFA Champions League, the FA Cup and the League Cup.
The Saudi Pro League has made huge strides towards rivaling some of Europe’s top leagues in years to come. The likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar, and Karim Benzema are now at the forefront of Saudi football.
Mohamed Salah has emerged as their latest top target but a move will have to happen next year after his club stood firm over not selling him. Their reluctance came with such little time left of the transfer window for them to find a replacement.
However, that shouldn’t be the case come next year, especially if no new contract is agreed by the time the summer swings around. They could cash in on their fifth-highest all-time top goalscorer although Mido reckons it will be less than the £150 million they were offered.
Saudi Pro League director Michael Emenalo comments on Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah’s potential arrival
Saudi Pro League director Michael Emenalo lauded Mohamed Salah when reacting to Al Ittihad’s failed bid for the Egyptian superstar. He told Sky Sports that any player including the Liverpool forward are welcome in Saudi:
“First and foremost, (Mohamed) Salah is one of the best players on the planet. I’ve said before, privately and publicly, that we welcome anybody that wants to come to the SPL. That includes Salah.”
Al-Ittihad were weighing up improving their offer for Salah as their transfer deadline day approached. However, no second bid arrived for the former Chelsea winger although their interest still seems to stand:
“We close no doors. And if the opportunity is there to do things and do it well, and if it brings Mo Salah to the SPL, we’ll be very grateful.”
Salah could have reunited with many of his former Liverpool teammates have made the jump to Saudi. The likes of Jordan Henderson, Roberto Firmino, Fabinho, and Sadio Mane have all headed to the Middle East.
