With the holidays approaching, I think it’s more important than ever to support small independent businesses. Supporting communities and small companies can really help communities thrive! Plus, you’re helping the environment by reducing your carbon footprint.
One of the great things about living in London is that there are so many sustainable shops to choose from! I also found Instagram to be an incredible platform for helping you discover niche businesses and buy everything from plants to art.
Over the years, I do have a preference for a few brands that I think are worth mentioning. Some of my favorite small businesses include: Alexandria Coe Art, The Sustainable Department Store and Earl of East.
That being said, I would love to hear from you! What are some of your favorite independent and sustainable stores?
Alexandria Branch Arts
Alexandria Coe is a London-based artist whose illustrations of the female body are raw and beautiful. Although her paintings are abstract, they show emotion and try to tell a story that I love. I am very excited about the release of her second book, Lovers, which will focus on the subject of relationships and will include images and text describing what the word means to her. On MIRROR WATER, Julie Tanner interviews Alexander about her upbringing, her art, and why she prefers the word “nude” to “nude.” You can read the interview here.
